R & A Roofing Ltd is a family-run roofing company based in Portsmouth, delivering domestic, commercial and new-build roofing projects across the UK. Our services include pitched roofing, flat roofing, specialist leadwork, planned maintenance and complete re-roofing. We work closely with homeowners, businesses, developers and main contractors, providing reliable workmanship and clear communication throughout every project.
Our practical, hands-on approach allows us to understand the individual requirements of each roof and recommend suitable solutions. Every project is carefully planned and completed using quality materials, with close attention paid to weather protection, durability and the overal finish.

Our roofers combine practical knowledge with recognised industry qualifications, including NVQ Level 2 Roof Tiling and Slating, SSSTS, CSCS and SMSTS. R & A Roofing Ltd also holds SMAS Worksafe, NFRC Leading Roofing Excellence and CHAS Advanced accreditations, demonstrating our commitment to quality, safety and professional working practices across domestic, commercial and new build roofing projects.
Our History
The Story Behind R & A Roofing
Rich, our Managing Director, began his roofing career at just 15 years old, working alongside his father, Bert. Under his guidance, Rich learned the trade and gained experience working for leading roofing contractors across the South Coast. Together, they completed large-scale new build developments and bespoke residential roofing projects.
Following Bert’s passing in 2012, Rich and his wife Abbie established R & A Roofing Ltd in his memory. They aimed to build a roofing company founded on skilled workmanship, dependable service and genuine care for every project.
Today, R & A Roofing continues to grow, with plans to open a second office to serve the South West. The values passed down by Bert remain at the heart of the company: hard work, honesty and quality.

Rich Barnes
As Managing Director, Rich oversees the day-to-day operations of the business, with a strong emphasis on maintaining high quality throughout. Rich’s free time is spent with his wife and 2 kids, visiting Fratton Park on match days and watching his son play football.

Sam joined the business back in 2022, starting off as a trainee estimator. Sam now oversees supplier relationships, leading process change for the team, and making sure our contracts stay profitable. Outside of work, Sam likes to spend time with his partner and their 2 dogs.
